Saving Sites for the Future.

I recently learned about a new online book-marking site called clipix. You can organize your favorite sites and the best part is you can then share them with your friends. After you sign up just drag the clip button to your tool bar and you are now ready to clip, save, and share your internet sites.

One thing I like about clipix is you can group your sites by category. Simply put your favorite recipe, news, and blogs into the appropriate categorizations and go right to the internet site you are looking for with a few simple clicks.

Create Syncboards and share with friends. You have the option of keeping the sites private. If you are like me, I am sure you would want your friends to check out your favorite places to visit on the internet.

Take a look at this video.

My clipix is a work in progress at this time. I currently am adding new sites each day. I also added the clipix button to my side bar so visitors can see where I have been and enjoy my recent findings.

The possibilities of clipix are endless. You can make clipboards for traveling, parties, craft ideas, things for baby, and gifts. I could go on and on but I am sure you get the idea.

Clipix is also a great way to add new visitors to your blog. There is also an iPhone App so you can use clipix on the go. You never know when you might be out of town, surfing your phone and want to save a new site.

Check out clipix and add this great new tool today.

Giving a Perfect Gift

Guest post written by my buddy Bernardo Graham

My brother and I got together last year for Christmas and got my parents a great satellite TV package. I would have never thought to Give A Dish as a gift, but my brother is so thoughtful when it comes to getting things he knows my parents will love. I wish I was as good at picking out gifts for them as he is.

I’m lucky I have him to guide me down the right path. I usually just tell him to pick out something and we buy t together since I don’t have a knack for gift giving. I was so psyched to know that my parents would really love the gift, and it was so easy to give. Our dad was probably more excited than our mom at first, but she was the one who ended up getting more use out of it since she is retired.

She got really into watching the Food Network and learning how to make new things, so that made my dad pretty excited. It was nice to finally find something that I could get for them that they really enjoy.

Done.

Thursday the 16th of February of 2012 was the last day of Grandma M’s cancer treatment. Yes, we still have to wait a month to make sure the tumor is dead. I have great faith this will come to pass.

Unfortunately, I was not able to be with her on her last day of treatment. I wanted to wait for her to come out with a sign that said, “You did it!” I was with her in spirit and I hope she knows that. No, I know she does.

She is now enjoying a well-deserved month long vacation. Still trying to talk her into Disneyland, but hey, I think the fact that she does not have to see another doctor, machine, or IV bag for a while is enough.

The story is far from over. We have a party to plan. I have a butterfly necklace to return. Until then.

Thank you Lord.

NO MORE CHEMO.

We in the blog world know that all caps are the equivalent of yelling in the real world. Today is Grandma M’s last day of chemo. NO MORE CHEMO! Oh yes, she, I and all of us have earned the right to shout that phrase.

This is week six of everything and after Thursday (last day of radiation) it is time for a well deserved month off. Damn, I think we ought to hop the next flight to Hawaii or Jamaica or…Disneyland! Isn’t that what winning quarterbacks say when they win the Super Bowl? I think every winning cancer patient should be asked, “What are you doing next?”

Cancer patient, “I’m going to Disneyland!!!”

That aside, I snuck around last week and took a few photos of the radiation department. I was not sure if it was ok so I hid out in the changing room and waited for the treatment to start. I turned off my flash, waited for the tech to disappear and then got a few shots. Since the flash was off the photos are a little grainy but you can get the idea.

This is the entrance to the treatment area where the beast lives. I swear that door is almost a foot thick.

When the treatment is going on the sign lights up and you hear the beast music. ;)

Oh, Grandma M, the X-Ray sign does light up in the beginning.

In the very small waiting room is a TV that has never been on, along with magazines, books, and puzzles. This puzzle was worked on by patients and families for over 5 weeks. There was a running joke that you had to find at least one piece everyday. I never found one. Kudos to those that did.

Time to get off the Interwebs and get ready for the last long day. Pray for Grandma M’s recovery and back to normal life. All kidding aside (remember? humor?) the road had been tough, but she stayed on the road and that is the important part. It takes a lot of guts and determination to live through something like this. And I do mean Live.

So maybe I might be caught sneaking around the chemo room today.

Sunday Brunch – Musings

I seem to have a lot of random thoughts crossing my mind lately. I need to let them out. So here we go.

I know the beauty of a single flower.

I’ve witnessed too many weeds.

A beautiful song can make me dance.

An ugly word can make me cower.

I’ve seen despair and the greatest of heartache.

I’ve seen rebirth and joy.

Love has come my way.

Pain, one too many times.

I witnessed triumph.

I stood proud in loss.

I do not understand weakness.

I do not give up.

Sometimes it is hard to put one foot in front of the other.

I do because I have watched others do so.

Sometimes I do not want to do the right thing.

Yet, I do.

I stop to smell the roses and pet my dog.

This keeps me going.

Tomorrow is another day.

Thoughts.

Since I was laid off last August I have had a lot of time to think.  Going on numerous interviews and going up against people who are probably younger than me and maybe more qualified has left me with a sense of doom. Do not get me wrong, I will not give up and I do not believe in the “Whoa is me attitude” in any way shape or form.

I believe we are going through hard times much like in the days of the Great Depression. Yes, today we have to pay almost five bucks for a loaf of bread and then they may have only paid 5 cents. Still, when you only have so much it only goes so far.

I have looked into many employment aspects, including relocating to a different area. One such venture is a couple of states away and would involve looking into Car Transport Quotes. Of course there would be many other costs, but these are just ideas running around my head.

I sincerely hope that the economy picks up for everyone. Tough times, still we should all have hope.

Affordable Prescription Drugs for the Entire Family.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Last year when my Chihuahua Buddy was attacked I had to rush him to the emergency vet. I was so afraid of what kind of bill I would end up receiving. Luckily, the vet took pity on me and only charged me a small amount.

When I heard about Walgreens Prescription Savings Club I was glad to see that people as well as their pets are included. This is important to me because I want to let my animals have the best quality of life.

Families can join the club for $35 a year. This includes dependents 22 years old and younger. Individuals can join for only $20 a year. Members will receive discounts on diabetes supplies, flu shots, and nebulizers.

Other benefits include discounts on all generic prescriptions and 8,000 name-brand drugs. Members can also receive bonuses just buy purchasing Walgreen products and using Walgreen’s photo finishing services.

You can learn more by liking Walgreens on Facebook and following Walgreens on Twitter.

If you have pets or are unemployed at this time you might want to check out this savings club. You never know when illness might strike or your pet might fall ill and need a prescription. Buddy had three prescriptions when he went to the vet and I can tell you, they were not cheap.

Nearing the Finish Line.

Yesterday Grandma M attended her second to last chemo treatment and she now has only a week and a half of radiation. Her doctor is pleased with her progress and how well she has handled the whole process.

I must say she looks great. Much better than at the beginning. We met a new partner in the cancer crime. A very nice couple. The wife apparently has been involved in her battle for quite some time. She is holding her own. I could not believe it when I learned she was 86 years young. She does not look this age and we wish them the best.

Yesterday, chemo ended up a four hour long process. The chemo room has four nurses and usually two medical assistants. Yesterday we had Nurse Slow IV Drip. Or I might call her Nurse Bossy. We had her the first day and did not break out until over four hours. She tends to be a bit brash and kept stepping on my backpack. She would make a great military nurse.

I left for a bit to visit the library around the block from the office. I returned to find Grandma M hooked up to oxygen. She had a coughing attack (side effect of radiation.) Geeze, I leave for a half hour and this is what you do? (Just kidding! Humor right?)

One more chemo treatment. Just one request. Can we please watch a different movie? We’ve seen the same movie three weeks in a row. Just saying.

Sunday Brunch – Lunch With Friends.

I know that title sounds a bit redundant. Oh well. Yesterday I went to lunch with a couple of bestie former co-workers. We had  a nice meal at a local restaurant known for a wide variety of salad choices. I hate when you go out to eat and order a salad with your dinner and said salad is nothing more than lettuce and tomatoes. I was able to build a tasty salad with my favorites such as garbanzo beans, eggs, and bell peppers.

Miss G and Miss L are the kind of people that have your back. They care and are among a very few co-workers that I can honestly say give a crap and I can call friends.

One day I lost the diamond out of my engagement ring. It fell out of the setting and needless to say it was an upsetting experience. Miss G went with me to look for the diamond. Can you believe it? She found it in one of four elevators in our building. What are the chances? I call her me little Me-e-can friend. She is Hispanic and I am not stereotyping. She is Mexican and she teaches me about her culture.

Miss L is like a  surrogate mother. Not that I need one. Still, she has offered me money, housing, and wisdom. She tries her best to feed you at every turn. At one point she kept a jar of candy on her desk so the office could indulge. Everyday she would offer candy to me. I am not much of a sweet eating person. I told her to fill the jar with pizza and I would be all over that.

Anyway, we decided to make our lunch date a monthly occurrence. I look forward to luncheon with the ladies. Man, am I getting old or what?

No, just filling my heart.
