There are so many good clear internet service providers it may actually be possible for me to convince my boss that he needs to let me work from home. I know it doesn’t sound like the best idea but for me it’s all about being able to get my work done and be with my kids and since they’re about to go off to school next year I really want to relish the time I have left with them.

I know so many other moms who do this too and I think it’s important to note that most of them have done it really successfully. Outside of starting my own business I can’t imagine another more flexible job than mine so it’s nice for me to remember what it’s like to be in the working world. I don’t want to lose the extra income but I know my husband’s happy I’m going to be home and more accountable for the kids, too, which is reason enough as it is!

We live on a horse farm about twenty miles from Aiken, South Carolina. We have always loved horses and decided a couple of years ago that we were ready to invest in a few horses and move to rural South Carolina. We are so far out, that we couldn’t get hardwired internet. We decided to go with a local internet provider that provided satellite internet. I’m glad that we decided to, because our grandchildren taught us how to create a blog.

We started a blog and we can post pictures of our horses, travels, and daily life on the farm. Our children and grandchildren love our blog. Even though we are really far away from each other, we feel connected and together. On our blog, our friends and family can post comments and questions when we post a picture or a story. We can respond right back on the blog. I usually end up blogging every night! It makes me feel like a school girl writing in her diary, but way cooler!

There are all kinds of perfume choices out there that if you’re completely unprepared, it can be such a chore to go to the perfume counter and try to pick out a scent. A few months ago I did that and got so frustrated and overwhelmed that I ended up buying this perfume that I didn’t like a week later. Well, I don’t want to waste that money and ever have that happen again, so I decided that I would do a whole lot of research on my next big perfume purchase.

While I was online doing that bit of research, I ran across some information on Internet service providers that sounded really great, so I decided to change over my home internet service to one of the providers on there.

I’ve been collecting perfume samples and swatches from magazines for a while now and I think that I have it narrowed down to a few really great choices. I’ve found out that I love basically anything that Marc Jacobs releases and I just might have to get his latest one because of that.

Anyone Ready For the Holidays?

Here we are, already in September. This year has flown by. I can say I am ready for summer to end and cooler tempuratures to grace the Desert Southwest. Unfortunately, that will not happen until close to Halloween.

But, if things keep going the way they are, Halloween will soon arrive and then before you know it the holidays will be upon us. That means it is time to start thinking about Christmas shopping. I know. I do not want to think about it either. But with several grandchildren I must.

Sometimes it is hard to know what they might like. I like to find simple toys that promote discovery and learning. I also find games for children a nice gift. It is fun to play games with my grandchildren that I played as a child and then played with my own children. I think everyone has played Candy Land as a child. For many it was their first board game. Monopoly and The Game of Life made you feel like a grown up. Buying real estate and putting the little pink and blue pegs in the cars was fun as was passing go and collecting your payday money.

So, I need to get thinking about Christmas. I also need to become more creative about gifts this year because that unemployment check only goes so far.

Times They Are a Changing.

Sometimes I sit and think just how close retirement is for me. Life really does wiz by. With the way things are now who knows if I will be able to get social security or even medicare. I hope it is still around and I hope our politicians start focusing on this.

I hope that I can get Medicare supplement plans when the time comes. I know I have the option of working as long as possible but it would be nice to be able to retire and maybe travel a bit or spend time gardening, writing or taking leisurely walks with my dogs.

I have life insurance so my kids will not be burdened when it is my time but I want to look into seniors Burial Insurance too. That way the arrangements are made and my wishes will be followed and there will be no worries for my heirs.

Hopefully I will get to retirement and have plenty of time to enjoy that part of my life. I do have my 401K and I am starting to save from my freelance work so with any luck all will be well and who knows, maybe I will get to see Hawaii or Australia or the Bahamas….
