Sunday Brunch – Happy 4th of July

Happy Birthday America!

Well, I’ve had a very interesting week. It started out ok, but on Monday I got in my car and started it and this is what I heard. rrrrr. rrrrr. I knew my battery was going. I stopped at the grocery store and when I started the car I once again heard. rrrrr. rrrrr. I made it home but when I went to go to work the next day, this is what I heard. Nothing, nada, dead battery.

Thankfully, Cpl Honda was still here and he took me to work. And picked me up. Next day, once again, Cpl Honda took me to work. And picked me up. Why did I not get a new battery? Well, considering we lost our tenants in our rental house, we had extra bills this month. Thankfully, that situation is resolved, but at the time, left me with no recourse then to find alternative ways to work.

Fast forward to Thursday. Corvette and I try to remove the battery from my car. As a side note, my car is a Volkswagen. Small, compact and not conducive to working on. When I bought it, the salesperson warned me that it would be hard to work on. He was right.

It was probably 105 degrees that day and to say we were sweating buckets is an understatement. We decide to wait until Saturday morning when it is cooler.

So, ahead to Saturday morning, it is cooler yes, but getting the battery out proves to be a major undertaking. The thing is wedged in there and surrounded by a case that proves almost impossible to remove. Two hours after we start, we finally have the battery out. We then have to put it on a dolly because it so heavy, we can not carry it together.

Finally, we take it to the car parts store and get a new battery, which, by the way, weighs significantly less, thank you very much!

So, I now have a working car again, am out of a Benjamin that I could have used elsewhere and still waiting for my garden shade. Tonight, maybe.

Also, Cpl Honda came home again. Apparently, life in the city of many palms is dismal to say the least.

Corvette is wanting me to shell and devein a bunch of shrimp for dinner tonight. I. Don’t. Think. So.

If anyone is looking for me, I will be the one sitting in the driveway watching the fireworks.
