I was pleased to see this story last night on the news. WASP, Women Airforce Service Pilots, served during World War II from 1942 to 1944. They flew non-combat mission so male pilots could fly active duty missions.
These women were not considered military personal so they never received recognition for their service during World Was II. Until now. As I watched the news story last night I wondered why they were not awarded a military medal. I decided to look up WASP on the internet and that is when I discovered that WASP was not military. It was then I understood why they were receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Congratulation ladies and thank you for your service!

These wonderful women, the WASP, received the Congressional Gold Medal, as a group, and it will be on display at the Smithsonian soon. WASP were not military and didn’t see combat duty even though several did die on duty serving our nation from various reasons.
The Congressional Medal of Honor is given to military personnel only with the last being award to Jarred Monti in 2006 who gave his life for the safety of his unit while fighting in the War on Terrorism. His family accepted his medal from the US President.
The only reason I am writing this email is to clarify what medal is received by whom…after reading the “WASP received the Congressional Medal of Honor.”
Thank you for your time.
